Dear Bristow Run Families,
I am pleased to inform you that Bristow Run Elementary School is going “Global”! Along with two other Prince William County schools, we were selected to participate in the Global Gateway program, a first in the state of Virginia. As part of the program, our school has been designated as a member of the Global Schools Network.
The goal of the program is to utilize 21st Century learning skills to bring a global perspective to our students. During the 2012-2013 school year, we will begin implementation in grades K, 1 and 2. Each grade level will adopt a region of the world and teachers will utilize inquiry base learning activities to infuse the culture of that region into daily instruction. Through participation in the Global Schools Network and professional development, our goal is to provide increased rigor and incorporate learning opportunities that challenge our students. The program is designed to support our staff in teaching the Virginia Standards of Learning and is not a separate curriculum.
As a faculty, we will be receiving on-going training and support provided by the PWCS Office of Professional Development and Visiting International Faculty (VIF). Together we will be working to develop and effectively implement this program over the next three years. We will continue to provide our school community and families with information on this special opportunity throughout the school year.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office and we will be happy to help you.
I look forward to another great year at Bristow Run Elementary!
